What is pelvic floor therapy?
Pelvic floor therapy is a specialized form of therapy that helps improve the muscles, tissues, and nerves that support your bladder, bowel, and reproductive organs.
It can help with concerns such as urinary or bowel leakage, urgency and frequency, pelvic pain, painful intercourse, constipation, postpartum changes, and pelvic floor weakness or tension.
At Exhale Therapy & Wellness, we take a whole-person approach. We look beyond the pelvic floor itself to understand how your breathing, core, posture, movement, habits, and nervous system may be contributing to your symptoms.
Your treatment is individualized to your body and your goals.
What to Expect During Your First Session
Your first visit is primarily about getting to know you and understanding what your body needs. We’ll discuss your symptoms, health history, daily habits, goals, and how your concerns are affecting your life.
Depending on your symptoms and comfort level, your therapist may assess your breathing, posture, core, hips, abdomen, or pelvic floor muscles. An internal pelvic floor assessment (adults only) may be recommended, but it is never required and will only be performed with your informed consent.
Your therapist will explain what they find and create a personalized treatment plan with you. You’ll leave with a better understanding of what may be contributing to your symptoms and practical steps you can begin using right away.
You do not have to live with pelvic floor symptoms. Help is available, and you deserve to feel comfortable and confident in your body.
